To feel truly alive

Tuesday January 4, 2011 #281

“A person should set his goals as early as he can and devote all his energy and talent to getting there. With enough effort, he may achieve it. Or he may find something that is even more rewarding. But in the end, no matter what the outcome, he will know he has been alive.”

~Walt Disney

I spoke last week of focusing on recalibrating your goals vs. making typically empty ‘resolutions’.  One reader asked me for examples of “good goals”.  You can broadly place most goals into one of four key areas of life:  health, wealth, wisdom, or happiness.  Think about one personal or professional goal that you know if achieved would make a real difference in one of these key areas.  Then, think about what the first step might be towards achieving that goal.  Finally, open your calendar and decide what time today, but no later than tomorrow that you will take that first step.  A “good goal” is one that is worth the effort to take action for – today.  In so doing, you will feel truly alive.
