Moments of true joy

Thursday March 24, 2011 #301

“We must strive to reach that simplicity that lies beyond sophistication”

~John Gardner

Most of us tend to focus on a life of accumulation, and working endlessly to have the means to accumulate more and more.  Some objects can provide great joy and their accumulation is worthwhile.  Most objects, however, do little more than take up space and create stress-inducing debts.  If we really think about the moments of true joy and satisfaction in our lives, their genesis is almost always in the simplicity of life:  a child’s smile, a beautiful sunrise, the touch of a lover’s hand in yours, the achievement of a hard-won goal.

There is nothing wrong with striving for sophistication and/or the accumulation of objects that nourish us in some way.  Along the way, don’t forget to notice the simple joys that surround us.

Thank you to JAMmer Johanna for sharing today’s quote.
