Game-changing brilliance

Thursday September 22, 2011 #353

“Be creative. Use unconventional thinking. And have the guts to carry it out.”

~Lee Iaccoca

This idea isn’t for everyone, but then not everyone is cut out to lead.  But if you are, and you want to make a difference, you will need courage and the ability to see a different path.  Incremental improvement is for the timid.  Be bold – make the creative leap to a new way of being.  In this courageous space lies game-changing brilliance.

Falling is part of the journey

Tuesday September 20, 2011 #352

“Success is the culmination of failures, mistakes, false starts, confusion, and the determination to keep going anyway.”

~Nick Gleason

Anything worth achieving involves many falls, scrapes and bruises along the way – physically or psychologically or both.  The key is to know that what you are striving for is worth it.  Take the time to set goals on destinations that are congruent with your passions and values.  Then, enjoy every aspect of the journey – failures included – as you climb ever closer to achievement and success.

Making dreams real

Thursday September 15, 2011 #351

“Dreams only come true when the dreamer takes action.”

 ~Joel Osteen

The act of imagination and the ability to dream are critical for the creative process.  For that process to bear fruit, the seeds of the dream must be watered and fertilized with the dreamer’s intentional actions.  What is your dream?  What action are you taking today to make that dream a reality?

Focus. Believe. Achieve.

Tuesday September 13, 2011 #350

“Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off the goal.”

~Hannah More

More often than not, the obstacles between us and achieving our goals are self-imposed.  By staying relentlessly focused on an important goal it is highly likely that few if any obstacles will appear.  If they do appear, your focus will enable you to quickly grasp solutions and alternatives which someone with less clarity would struggle with.  Focus.  Believe.  Achieve.

Claim your moment

Thursday September 8, 2011 #349

“Life is now. It will always be now. At some point we have to decide now is a perfect time to be happy, peaceful, satisfied, and complete.”

 ~Lori Deschene, a.k.a. Tiny Buddha

Don’t lament for happiness experienced in the past, nor dwell on hopes for some future time when you can experience the happiness you dream of.  Rather, realize that right now you have the choice to be present and realize the blessings of the moment.  Now is truly your time – claim it!

Love is a verb

Tuesday September 6, 2011 #348

“You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.”

 ~Dr. Seuss

On this day I celebrate the 15th anniversary of my marriage to my best friend, who continues to be the woman of my dreams.  I am fortunate to be sharing my life with someone I truly love more today than ever and hope that you have the opportunity to experience a similar miracle in your life.  Love is a verb – to fully experience love you must actively love your partner.  So do it!

Be what you want to see in others

Thursday September 1, 2011 #347

Do unto those downstream as you would have those upstream do unto you.”

 ~Wendell Berry

This variant on the old saying is particularly appropriate for leaders who often behave toward subordinates in the same way they complain of in regards to their own bosses.  Be the beacon of the leadership you desire from your superiors through the example you set.

Avoiding dogmatic thinking

Tuesday August 30, 2011 #346

“Too often we enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

 ~John F. Kennedy

Particularly during the current US political divisiveness, I seek to remind you to not be bound by dogmatic thinking.  While it may be challenging to think through and perhaps entertain thoughts different from your own, it is a mark of character and maturity to be able to consider alternative viewpoints.  More often than not, arguments can be resolved through careful and respectful consideration of alternative viewpoints.  Most people desire the same positive results.  Assume good intent and you may be surprised by the richness and value of solutions derived from individuals with different ideas who wish for the same positive result.
