Everyday epiphanies

Thursday March 15, 2012 #403

“Gratitude bestows reverence, allowing us to encounter everyday epiphanies, those transcendent moments of awe that change forever how we experience life and the world.”

~John Milton

We live in an amazing time of technological marvels and human innovation, perseverance and triumph.  As the popular media attempts to drown us in overly dramatized negativism, seek with purpose the evidence of the march of positive change on our planet and of its people.  And when you find it, show your gratitude by sharing your discoveries with others.

A wonderful new friend shared this with me, and now, with gratitude, I share it with you.

Try to remember compassion

Tuesday March 13, 2012 #402

“Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle. That certainly includes me. And, I’m betting, you. Being compassionate will probably make us better, more effective people. If not, at least it will reduce the suffering that accompanies weakness. And it will most certainly make us nicer to each other and to ourselves.”

~Peter Bregman

Compassion is a critical skill we can all improve upon – compassion towards others and compassion towards ourselves.  Blaming ourselves and/or blaming others for challenges is always a zero-sum game.  Though it is difficult, I always try to assume people desire to do good (including me!).  I don’t always succeed, but when I find myself or others falling into the blame game or getting overly critical, I try to remember compassion.  Like any skill, mastering compassion takes practice.  Practice some compassion today.

Take a breath

Thursday March 8, 2012 #401

“You can’t let yourselves get too busy mopping the floor that you don’t have time to turn off the faucet.”

~unknown

We often confuse busyness with accomplishment.  Worse, when we get so busy doing “stuff” without intention or reflection, we can easily miss our opportunities for learning, seeing real solutions and opportunities for innovation, and chances for inspiring human connections.

Take a breath.  Reflect.  Notice your surroundings and the people around you.  Take the time to turn off the faucet.

Milestones 50 & 400

Tuesday March 6, 2012 #400

“The wisdom acquired with the passage of time is a useless gift unless you share it.”

~Esther Williams

It is amazing how things come together sometimes.  Today is my 400th JAM with Mike and my 50th birthday.  Two milestones for sure.  I take this moment to reflect with gratitude my opportunity to celebrate 50 years on the planet, surrounded by people I love, doing work that energizes and inspires me, and having the gift of several hundred people around the world reading my 400th twice-weekly JAM.

So, thank you for sharing this journey with me.  We are truly fortunate to live during this amazing time and I look forward to every opportunity to connect and share in the years ahead.  On to the next 100 JAMs and my 51st year!

Genius, power and magic

Thursday March 1, 2012 #399

“What you can do, or dream you can do, begin it; boldness has genius, power and magic in it.”

 ~Johann von Goethe

I love this quote and have kept it nearby for many years.  It energizes me to think of the genius, power, and magic that come from taking action on our dreams.  It is not the dream that produces the magic.  It is the action.  Take action and make magic!

“What if we…”

Tuesday February 28, 2012 #398

“Without deviation, progress is not possible.”

~Frank Zappa, musician

Most people prefer the predictable and get very uncomfortable, even angry or manic, when their expected routines and processes are disturbed.  For a select few, the mavericks, the change agents, the truly innovative, they thrive with deviation and disruption of expected norms.  They may even cause the disruptions.  For they understand that progress only comes when we have the courage and/or the audacity to challenge the norms and ask the question, “What if we…”.

Asking for help

Thursday February 23, 2012 #397

“What separates those who achieve from those who do not, is in direct proportion to one’s ability to ask for help.”

~Donald Keough

Read any of the thousands of stories of achievement – big and small.  Almost always the storyteller will relate with gratitude the impact of one or more helpers along the path to success.  Often, the story involves breaking through the barriers of selfishness, stubbornness, and pride to finally ask for the help we almost always need to achieve our greatest victories and the smallest wins.  What are you trying to achieve?  What would it mean to get a little support?  Ask!

If there is anything I can do to help you along your path, please have the courage to ask.  I am here for you!

Inspired to continue

Tuesday February 21, 2012 #396

“If one dream should fall & break into a thousand pieces, never be afraid to pick one of those pieces up & begin again.”

~Flavia Weedn

That is the thing about dreams… Even when we take action to bring our dreams into reality, we often fail.  That’s OK.  The message is to remain focused and inspired to continue on the path and find a new idea, a new path, a person to help.  Throw away your fear and believe!

The 3 P’s of Success

Thursday February 16, 2012 #395

“Patience, persistence and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success.”

~Napoleon Hill

Setbacks and failures stem from a lack of one of these three “P’s”.   If you find you are not quite where you want to be, reflect on your level of sustained patience, persistence and perspiration.  It is almost guaranteed you will find your answer there.

Love is a verb

Tuesday February 14, 2012 #394

“Love is the joy of the good, the wonder of the wise, the amazement of the Gods.”

~Plato

A Happy Valentines wish to all that you have great love in your life.  Be sure to express your love to those you love in your life today and every day.  Love is a verb – go out there and Love!!
