Applied learning – Dare to be Contagious!™

Tuesday April 24, 2012 #413

“A clever person solves a problem. A wise person avoids it”

~Albert Einstein

We celebrate those who can solve problems.  These people are clever and able to look at an obstacle and devise the means and methods to overcome it.  The truly wise however, are able to reflect on the situation, learn from it, and adjust their approach to similar situations in the future – avoiding the obstacle all together.

The point?  Be sure as you successfully work through a challenge to take the time to reflect and learn – and then apply that learning in future situations.  Most importantly, your value will be exponentially expanded if you teach others what you’ve learned.  As I often teach, “Dare to be Contagious”™, and share your knowledge freely.

You really do have enough

Thursday April 19, 2012 #412

“When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you.”

~Lao Tzu

It is part of our human nature to see things in a mindset of scarcity.  Not enough time, not enough money, not enough talent.  If only we had more of each, then we could be happy, then we could achieve our goals.  This mental bent toward scarcity is genetic and helped our distant ancestors survive.  Today, thankfully for most of us, we can afford to think differently and realize a mindset of abundance.  In reality, we really do have sufficient time, money and talent to realize our dreams.  If we can embed this into our psychology, we will find the courage, motivation and confidence to take the actions necessary for success.  You really do have enough.  Act!

Success through intention and passion

Tuesday April 17, 2012 #411

“No matter how carefully you plan your goals they will never be more than pipe dreams unless you pursue them with gusto.”

~W Clement Stone

When you think of the goals you have achieved over the years, whether personal or professional, it is likely that you can point to both well crafted planning and enthusiastic if not passionate execution.  In the end, these were goals you truly cared about and were in alignment with your most cherished values.

Look at the goals in front of you.  First, ensure they are meaningful to you – passionately so.  Otherwise, why bother?  Second, utilize your most focused effort to craft an intentional path to get you there.  If both are followed, it is highly likely that your day to day approach will be with gusto and passion.  And then, success is almost guaranteed!

Using trust to create magic

Thursday April 12, 2012 #410

“It’s one of the characteristics of a leader that he not doubt for one moment the capacity of the people he’s leading…”

~Benjamin Zander

Thank you to JAMmer ER for tweeting this excellent reminder to all leaders.  Leaders have the responsibility of courageously moving people unable to succeed from their teams to roles within or without the organization where their strengths are a match.  Assuming this is occurring, their next critical responsibility is to trust their people as individuals and as a team to achieve amazing results.  Believe in them, articulate that belief constantly, and watch the magic happen.
