Motivation to Start Your Day!

Every Day Brings a Choice

Thursday February 7, 2013 #496

Every day brings a choice: to practice stress or to practice peace.”

~Joan Borysenko

Today I remind you of the power you possess to determine your state of mind, your mood, your reaction to circumstances, and how you will project this to those around you.  That power is yours to use and the implications are enormous. In this moment, you have the choice.  What will you choose?

Including Love in the Leadership Discussion

Tuesday February 5, 2013 #495

“Love is the ultimate motivation of the extreme leader, love of something or someone, love of a cause, love of a principle, love of the people you work with and the customers you serve, love of the future you and yours can create together, love of the business you conduct together every day.  Without the calling and commitment of your heart, there is no good reason for you to take a stand, to take a risk, to do what it takes to change your world for the better.”

~Steve Farber

I have long advocated the need to include “love” in the leadership discussion.  Without the passion, commitment, and character that love implies, nothing we do has real meaning.  And as a leader, our effectiveness largely relies upon our ability to provide meaning for our people.  This is true for leading in the workplace, a community organization, a family, or a single relationship.  Authentic love inspires commitment, action, perseverance, empathy, and reciprocation.  Love with all your heart and let it show in your words and in your actions.

Courage to try again

Thursday January 31, 2013 #494

“Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, ‘I will try again tomorrow.'”

~Mary Anne Radmache

You’ve made it through the first month of 2013.  Congratulations!  Reflect back on the month with gratitude for the people you’ve had the chance to be with and interact with.  Think about what you have learned from your experiences and interactions.  Give yourself kudos for the actions taken and progress made in those areas of life you have committed to improving – no matter how small the gains.  And finally, note the times you were not your best self and the opportunities to make progress that were missed due to your own choices.  But don’t beat yourself up for these.  Realize that you can try again tomorrow.  That each day holds the opportunity to move forward and to take the actions needed to be and achieve what you desire.

You have all you need

Tuesday January 29, 2013 #493

“It doesn’t matter who you are, where you come from. The ability to triumph begins with you. Always.”

~Oprah Winfrey

Pedigree, intelligence, good looks, talents, and contacts are clearly helpful in the quest to achieve.  However, the world is full of people who rose from humble stock and with little or no assets to achieve great things.  Just as there are those with amazing talents and assets who do nothing with them.  Why would you choose to be less than any of these people?  You have all you need to begin making a difference today.  Start.
