The impact of who you choose to be with

“You become the average of the five people you hang out with.”

~Drew Houston

Most people do not realize the impact of the choices they make in companions & friends.  We are naturally quite malleable and tend to take on the characteristics of those we spend the most time with.  Think about it.  Who are those that you are with most often?  Have you chosen intentionally, or have you fallen into friendships and relationships without much thought?

Look – it really is simple.  What do you want?  Joy?  Happiness?  Positivity?  Then hang out with people with these characteristics.  How about discipline, healthy living, generosity, being good with finances?  Again, find people with one or more of these characteristics you want in yourself.

Most  importantly, if you have people in your ‘crowd’ who are the opposites of what you are hoping to be, you must have the courage to extract yourself from their orbit.  It is not about being judgmental.  It is about ensuring you are nourished and made better by the people you engage with daily. Don’t try to change them.  Make the change yourself.

This may be one of the most important pieces of advice I have offered on JAM with Mike.  Please consider it.
