Motivation to Start Your Day!

Thursday December 26, 2013 #588

“Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.”

~Eckhart Tolle

It is a natural part of being human to strive for more:  more wealth, more possessions, more pleasure…  more, more, more!  Most of us also realize that “more” of these things do not usually have anything to do with what we really want:  more happiness, more joy, more love, more meaning.  And in fact, the opposite is true:  The more we experience happiness, joy, love, and meaning, the more likely it is that we will find these manifested in wealth and other material things.

Begin your journey with gratitude and acknowledgment of the many blessings you already possess, including the many people around you.  If you can feel this authentically, you will find your path to tangible abundance clear and aided by both your own efforts and by the gifts of those you impact.

Christmas Magic Moments

Tuesday December 24, 2013 #587

“Create magic moments by maintaining a grateful heart and loving thoughts.”

~Isa Zapata

christmas hugs

Ahhh…  Christmas week.  A wonderful time for celebrating with our families and friends the many blessings in our lives.  For some though, this is a very challenging time if they are dealing with challenging issues, circumstances, etc. – especially if alone.

If you are celebrating with family and/or friends, pause and reflect with gratitude on this reality and express your gratitude with loving thoughts, words, and deeds.  If you know of someone who may be alone this week, and have the capacity to share a bit of yourself, reach out with at least a phone call or message to let them know they are not alone and that they are loved.

If you are alone this week, please know you are thought of by many with gratitude and loving thoughts.

To all of you whether you celebrate Christmas or not, a heartfelt wish for love and joy, and my personal gratitude for being part of my amazing journey.

Merry Christmas!

Personal Reflection

Thursday December 19, 2013 #586

“Without reflection, we go blindly on our way, creating more unintended consequences, and failing to achieve anything useful.”

~Margaret J. Wheatley

time to reflect

Tuesday’s JAM was focused on reflecting on your business/work life.  Today, I urge you to put the same effort in reflecting on your personal life – your relationships, your health, and your joy.  It is critical that we balance our efforts to ensure both our work and our home lives are moving forward in an intentional way.  Give yourself credit for even the small positive steps you took this year to be better to yourself, your family and your friends.  Recognize where you fell short and take responsibility to learn from your mistakes and think of the ways you might improve going forward.  Most importantly, think of all those who provided you even the smallest of help along your path and take the time to thank them.  Gratitude is one of the most powerful tools at your disposal to move your life forward in a positive way.  Use it liberally!

Executive Reflection

Tuesday December 17, 2013 #585

“Most executives I know are so action-oriented, or action-addicted, that time for reflection is the first casualty of their success.”

~Margaret Heffernan

executive reflection

As we move towards the end of one year and the beginning of another, it is important to reflect on our year.  What did we set out to accomplish for business, for our people, and for ourselves?  In this reflection it is important to take enough time to be realistic and give ourselves credit for all that we accomplished (intended or not), as well as the courage to accept responsibility for what did not go as intended.  Think about those who aided you along the way and determine how to thank them, even if silently in your thoughts.  These should also include people who affected you in a negative way – thanking them for the lessons learned (probably just in your thoughts).  Don’t let the year end without reflection to ensure you learn from your experiences and determine the ways you might apply the lessons learned in the year ahead.

A Change for the Better

Thursday December 12, 2013 #584

“There are two primary choices in life: to accept conditions as they exist, or accept the responsibility for changing them.”

~Denis Waitley

It is so easy to look at the challenges we face and place blame on our circumstances or on other people, determining we are victims.  If you listen to most conversations, or to the news, or to your own complaints, you know people do this constantly.  Is this you?  If so, be unique.  Stop being a victim, blaming others or making excuses.  Be the architect of your own destiny.  Take action to change your situation – if nothing else, by choosing an attitude of hope and positivity.  You have the power to choose.

A Tribute to Nelson Mandela

Tuesday December 10, 2013 #583

“There is no passion to be found playing small – in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.”

~Nelson Mandela

The world lost a great man on December 5th, 2013 when Nelson Mandela passed away.  There are few individuals with his name recognition and impact.  He affected not only his own country, but the attitudes and aspirations of millions.  As I reflect on his many deeds and statements, this quote resonates greatly.  While most of us cannot conceive of living such a life of impact and meaning, all of us are capable of living to our own potential.

In honor of this great man’s life, may we all find our own voice and the courage to utilize our gifts to their utmost, making a difference for the people in our lives.

When to Let Go

Thursday December 5, 2013 #582

“Some people believe that holding on and hanging in there are signs of great strength. However, there are times when it takes much more strength to know when to let go — and then do it.”

~Ann Landers

It takes great courage and persistence to continue fighting on past obstacles to achieve worthy goals and truly make a difference for yourself and others.  However, not all goals are worth this effort.  It is important to reflect for a moment and ensure you are working toward truly worthy purposes – those that are aligned with your most deeply held beliefs and values.  As you reflect, you will likely find one or more things that you are spending time and energy on that are actually not worth fighting for.  This could be a relationship, a job, a project, etc.  It may take even more courage to decide to stop and let this one go.

Have the courage to fight on for the worthy causes, and let go of those that no longer serve you.

The Magic in Your Life

Tuesday December 3, 2013 #581

“The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.”

~W.B. Yeats

As we enjoy the festive season, it is a time to reflect on the magic in our lives.  Noticing and accepting the many blessings we are fortunate to have in our lives.  Take the time to put aside negative thoughts and feelings for a few minutes and reflect on the extraordinary positives in your life – the magic that you otherwise let go unnoticed and unappreciated.  Who and what have you forgotten for the blessings they are in your life?  See and feel the magic now.  Magnify the moment by expressing your gratitude by word, touch, and deed.  You will be better for it.

“Success isn’t great because of the stuff you get. It’s great because of the stuff you suddenly are allowed to give.”

~Robin InspirationEnergy

An amazing gift of success is the ability to give of yourself – time, money, skills – to those who can benefit.  Giving can be tiny – a smile, a word of thanks, or some of your time.  Or massive (think of what Bill & Melinda Gates are doing with their foundation).  And for most of us, our ability to give falls within these boundaries.  In the end, what we give is not the issue.  It is that we give at all.  Think of all you’ve been given in your life and think about how you can begin or continue to return the favor.

Three questions:  What can you and what will you give, and to whom?  Start with a little of your time and enjoy the tangible and intangible gifts you will receive from giving.

True Greatness

Tuesday November 26, 2013 #579

“No one ever attains very eminent success by simply doing what is required of him; it is the amount and excellence of what is over and above the required that determines the greatness of ultimate distinction.”

~Charles Kendall Adams

The majority of people put forth just enough effort to be relatively comfortable.  That gives you and me the opportunity to rise above this mediocrity and do amazing things!  Be the person who tries a bit harder, shows up a bit earlier, gives a bit more than is required, defends someone a bit weaker, laughs a bit more often, and decides to be a bit more successful.  Starting now.
