Motivation to Start Your Day!

Starting Now

Tuesday October 21, 2014 #671

“Your future is created by what you do today, not tomorrow.”

~Robert Kiyosaki

Procrastination is such a dangerous game.  We all know the power of compound interest:  The earlier we start to put a little away each day into our savings account, the earlier we attain wealth.  The same is true for moving toward your personal and professional goals.  The earlier you start, the more likely you will succeed.  Don’t wait another moment.  Take action today, and tomorrow!

Embracing Change

Thursday October 16, 2014 #670

“Change is rarely comfortable, but always necessary – don’t resist the opportunity to be a better version of you!”

~Louis Martin Jr

There are two kinds of people:  Those who fight against any change in their lives and those who not only welcome change but actively and intentionally embrace it.  Change is going to happen to us whether we embrace it or not.  When we fight change, we are fighting nature and this creates tension, anxiety and other negative effects including physical and mental challenges.  When we embrace change, and intentionally seek how best to leverage the changes that come, we grow, learn, and become better for it.

Sustainable Success

Thursday October 9, 2014 #669

“I’ve always been in the right place and time. Of course, I steered myself there.”

~Bob Hope

Why do some people seem to consistently achieve more than others?  I firmly believe there must be a combination of three things:  innate and/or learned talent, an authentic drive to help others succeed, and most importantly, intentional and persistent actions to be ready for any and all opportunities that come their way.  Talent may or may not be natural, but everyone can continuously learn to better themselves.  Consistent success only derives from a true energy around helping others succeed, vs. focusing selfishly on ourselves – this is true leadership.  But neither talent nor leadership ability delivers success without intentional actions.  You can get lucky once or twice, but sustainable excellence is an intentional journey.

Living the Adventure

Tuesday October 7, 2014 #668

Never forget that life can only be nobly inspired and rightly lived if you take it bravely and gallantly, as a splendid adventure in which you are setting out into an unknown country, to meet many a joy, to find many a comrade, to win and lose many a battle.”

~Annie Besant

Often people don’t like to admit it, but it is true:  the only life worth living is the one that challenges who and what you are.  It can’t and shouldn’t be always easy and carefree.  It is only through struggle, challenges, loss, and grief, that we can find and appreciate joy, love, fulfillment, success and peace.  We don’t do this by playing it safe or hiding from life.  Rather, we must embrace all of life fully – the good and the challenging, learn from our experiences, share our knowledge and gifts, and reflect on all we have.  Life is a great adventure – but only if you live it!

A Recipe for Living

Thursday October 2, 2014 #667

“The shoe that fits one person pinches another; there is no recipe for living that suits all cases.”

~Carl Jung

While looking at other people’s success formulas is instructive and can lead to interesting insights for our own pursuit of success, joy, and peace, a bit of caution is suggested.  No one else is you.  Each of us are unique in terms of our own combination of upbringing, education, experiences, and natural talents.  Copying someone else’s success strategy will likely work in one part of our life, but almost never in totality.  The lesson?  Be very selective in modeling yourself after someone else.  Determine what specific area of life you want to improve in and look for people who have excelled there.  You may end up with many ideas from many different people.  And in the end, the only “right” path is the one that is unique to you.

“A discovery is said to be an accident meeting a prepared mind.”

~Albert von Szent-Györgyi de Nagyrápolt

Today’s digital communications ensure a steady stream of great ideas and novel innovations coming our way.  We often react with, “Why didn’t I think of that?”  For many and maybe most discoveries, they happen by accident – but almost always in the sight of someone prepared to recognize it for what it is and it’s potential, and bring it forward.  So I believe the key is to become prepared so that you can be the one to recognize a new or novel idea.  How do to this?  Experience, reflect, learn, repeat.

Don’t live life with your head down and your senses muted.  Live each moment you can with eyes open, looking for what each experience brings you.  Reflect as and when you can, and always learn by asking, “What can I take away from that experience?”  And repeat, repeat, repeat.

Feeling Overwhelmed

Thursday September 25, 2014 #665

“Sometimes it can be tempting to be overwhelmed by the many things that seem to work against us. But how powerful, and how important it can be, if we don’t give in to this temptation.”

~Paula Kerger

We all experience a seeming lack of time, resources, support, and satisfaction.  And yet, in the same moment, the abundance of the universe surrounds us if we can only get beyond our perception of scarcity.  Those who experience their lives with the most joy are those who have the courage and persistence to push through obstacles that others shrink from, or possess the wisdom to know when to simply accept certain realities and choose a better path.  Don’t let challenges get you down.  Everyone has them.  Be one of those who choose not to be overwhelmed.

Beginnings and Endings

Tuesday September 23, 2014 #664

“The world is round and the place which may seem like the end may also be only the beginning.”

~Ivy Baker Priest*

Our lives are a series of beginnings, and endings.  All are opportunities for learning and growth – sometimes with sadness, sometimes with joy. But always with value.  At this moment you are in the process of beginning or ending multiple experiences in your personal and professional life.  Are you aware of these moments?  Experiencing them with intention and learning?  Don’t let these multitudes of precious moments pass by without your notice.  Beginnings and endings are indeed our entire life.

*Sitting at a lovely beach bar on Surin Beach in Phuket, Thailand (picture above), I discovered today’s quote on my drinking straw wrapper.  Great quotes can be found everywhere…
