Being a Positive Example

Thursday September 29, 2016 #833

“Life appears to me too short to be spent in nursing animosity or registering wrongs.” ~Charlotte Brontë (Jane Eyre)

The pressure from popular media and our own circle of friends bends us to focus on the various negatives in the world around us, resulting in hours spent complaining and often seeking vengeance for perceived wrongs against us or people and causes we care about.  While it may seem like it is our duty to spend our time this way, it is actually exactly the wrong way to focus our energy if we really want to make a difference.

The real way to make meaningful and enduring change is to focus on what is right, what is positive, and the people who represent the positive ideals we hold.  By all means, call out people who cause damage to society and institutions.  But focus most of your time on extolling the virtues of those who act to positively move society forward.  Most importantly, be an example of the positive world you want to be a part of.  It really does start with one person:  you.
