Fear of Failure

Tuesday April 18, 2017 #880

It was my fear of failure that first kept me from attempting my master work. Now, I’m beginning what I could have started ten years ago. But I’m happy at least that I didn’t wait twenty years.”

~Paulo Coelho

Many choose a career and then find at some point that their chosen field is not enabling them to use their talents to reach their potential.  It could be that the work is not a match for your talents or passions.  Or that you have developed new interests and skills that could be better applied in a different arena.  However, most choose to remain in a career that has become uninspiring and in which they are not fulfilling their potential due to fear of change.  A sure paycheck in an uninspiring career often is deemed a lesser evil than the unknowns of shifting careers.

I encourage you to be thoughtful and reflect carefully on whether you can reset your perspective and find fulfillment in your current career.  If not, it may be time to face your fears of the unknown and research how you can make a move that puts you in motion to a better career choice.  You spend most of your waking hours at work.  You have the choice on whether those hours are inspiring or drudgery.  Choose inspiration and the risk of change will be rewarded.
