Make Your Own Luck

Thursday June 4, 2015 #731

“Good luck is another name for tenacity of purpose.”

~Ralph Waldo Emerson

I do not believe in luck and neither should you.  Good things happen for us when we are clear on what we want, repeatedly take action to prepare ourselves, and pay attention so we recognize and take advantage of opportunities as they come along.  Don’t wait and hope for “luck” to come along.  Create your best future by preparing for it and acting to make it so.

Knowing What You Want

“Unhappiness is not knowing what we want and killing ourselves to get it.”

It is important to occasionally sit back and reflect on how you are living your life and how and with whom you are spending your time.  The speed of today’s life and the increasing demands on our time can easily create a situation where we can go for months or even years without authentically and critically assessing if what we are working so hard at is something that is aligned with what we really want and with what nurtures us.  Spend a little time today to think about this in your own life, and regardless of your conclusions, also schedule your next “appointment” with yourself no more than 4 months later to start a habit of regular reflection to ensure all your hard efforts remain aligned with your purpose and goals.

Your Life

“We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the life that is waiting for us.”

~Joseph Campbell

Not always, but often, our true path lies in a direction we had never envisioned.  The moment of recognition may come as a shock as you realize that your purpose, and your path to real joy and ultimately success, requires letting go of what you and others expected of yourself.  It’s the career person who realizes they must become an entrepreneur.  It is the financier who recognizes their true passion is in charitable works.  Or a million other less dramatic choices.  What is your true purpose, your true passion? Is your current life fulfilling your potential?  Alignment to your gifts and passions will create true joy and contentment.
