Intention & Action

Thursday July 2, 2015 #737

Everything is energy and that’s all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.

~Darryl Anka

737

This quote, often wrongly attributed to Einstein, is nice way to think about intention and action. I do believe there is an energy and a certain frequency that seems to surround those who consistently succeed and find joy in life.  When combined with positive and consistent action, our intentions can help to attract the people and circumstances necessary for success and happiness.  Find and/or create the frequency that works for you.

Getting the Best

Thursday June 18, 2015 #733

“It’s a very funny thing about life; if you refuse to accept anything but the best, you very often get it.”

~William Somerset Maugham

733

Countless books and articles have been written about using the power of intention to get what you want.  But intention alone will never consistently work.  Only intention combined with action and tenacity will produce results.  But action and tenacity without intention is just walking blind.  Intend for the best, act with tenacity, and get what you’re after!

Reflecting on Success

Tuesday February 3, 2015 #699

“Follow effective action with quiet reflection. From the quiet reflection will come even more effective action.”

~Peter Drucker

© Copyright 2010 CorbisCorporation

A standard and important practice in business and in our personal life is to follow a failure with reflection, seeking to understand the cause of the failure and planning to do better in the future.  However, an even more effective practice which is rarely done is to reflect on what caused a success.  Instead, we tend to move on quickly from success without much thought other than, “I sure did great!”  It is actually far more powerful to learn from success.  Just as it is rarely fully about you when you fail, it is almost never fully about you when you succeed.  There are many factors that lead to a particular result and the more we can seek to understand these factors, the more likely we can improve our performance in the future.

Happy New Year!

Thursday January 1, 2015 #692

“New Year’s Day. A fresh start. A new chapter in life waiting to be written. New questions to be asked, embraced, and loved. Answers to be discovered and then lived in this transformative year of delight and self-discovery. Today carve out a quiet interlude for yourself in which to dream, pen in hand. Only dreams give birth to change.”

~Sarah Ban Breathnach

692

On this New Year’s Day, I wish for you a year of significant, if not dramatic growth for yourself and all that you hold dear in your professional and personal life.  That growth will not come without purposeful and persistent action on your part.  Don’t wait for good things to come to your door!  Get out in the world and push yourself forward to the amazing potential that is within you.  Perhaps more importantly, be intentional about helping others accelerate their own growth.  You have amazing talents and gifts that if shared, will give others hope, challenge their thinking, and spread the potential for improved circumstances across your family, community, and workplace.

My best to you and yours as you launch your best year ever!

Conquering Fears

Sunday November 16, 2014 #678

“They can conquer who believe they can. He has not learned the first lesson is life who does not every day surmount a fear.”

~Ralph Waldo Emerson

678

Everyone has fears.  Those who appear fearless have merely learned to face and conquer their fears through tenacious action and a stubborn belief in their own ability to persevere.  This ability is learned and only gained through experience and will.  Don’t think you need to do this alone.  Share your fears with those you care about and enlist their help and guidance in your quest to accomplish your goals and purpose.  Get out there and push through the challenges of the day and gain the experience that will serve you well through the normal messiness of life.

Overcoming Obstacles

Tuesday November 11, 2014 #677

“History has demonstrated that the most notable winners usually encountered heart-breaking obstacles before they triumphed. They won because they refused to become discouraged by their defeats.”

~B.C. Forbes

677

At some point in your life you will be confronted with tragedy and loss, maybe several times.  Our ability to experience and then move beyond these challenges is a uniquely human trait that we all possess, but must have the will to utilize.  Perhaps more challenging than these major events are the thousands of little struggles we face each and every day.  That same will must come into play to avoid getting discouraged by the daily annoyances we encounter.  So whether to handle the small annoyance or the major tragedy, our will to not only survive, but thrive, is key.  We can and will find this internal strength both through intentional action, as well as surrounding ourselves with positive and tenacious people who love us.

Starting Now

Tuesday October 21, 2014 #671

“Your future is created by what you do today, not tomorrow.”

~Robert Kiyosaki

671

Procrastination is such a dangerous game.  We all know the power of compound interest:  The earlier we start to put a little away each day into our savings account, the earlier we attain wealth.  The same is true for moving toward your personal and professional goals.  The earlier you start, the more likely you will succeed.  Don’t wait another moment.  Take action today, and tomorrow!

Finding Your Purpose

Thursday August 7, 2014 #651

“There is one quality that one must possess to win, and that is definiteness of purpose, the knowledge of what one wants, and a burning desire to possess it.” ~Napoleon Hill

651

Without purpose, there is no passion.  Without passion, there is no desire.  Without desire, there is no action.  Without action, nothing can happen.  Find your purpose and start your journey to success.

Looking for a Sign

Thursday June 12, 2014 #635

“Failure is a signpost to turn you in another direction.” ~Oprah Winfrey

635

We all fail.  In little ways and in big ways.  The question is never, “will I fail?”  Of course I will.  The question is “what will I do when I fail?”  Reflection is always the important first step. Did I fail because I haven’t yet found the way through an obstacle, and therefore must keep trying different ways?  Or because I need to move in a different direction altogether?  The reflection will help determine the next action to take.

What failure is not, is a sign to give up on a worthy goal.  It may, however, be a sign to rethink whether your goal is indeed worthy.  If it is, don’t let anything stop you from taking actions, even when most fail.

Avoiding Mediocrity

Tuesday May 20, 2014 #628

“There is only one proof of ability, action.” ~Marie Von Ebner Eschenbach

628

You can have a great CV, an exceptional LinkedIn profile, and a million stories of what you have done and what you can do.  But none of these matter if your actions today do not support the picture of you that you want people to see.  Few people care much for what you have done; they only care about what you will do now.  This requires us to be focused on excellence every day, to never drift assuming people will forgive mediocrity today because of all we’ve done before.  Make it your purpose to demonstrate your abilities through today’s actions – every day.
