Big Dreams

Thursday May 25, 2017 #891

“Never give up on what you really want to do. The person with big dreams is more powerful than one with all the facts.”

~Albert Einstein

891

When we study successful people and break through innovators, it is interesting how often they defy conventional wisdom.  These people ignore or at least use the “facts” to go on to teach us new realities.  Their power is in their dream and their persistence to achieve it.  So dream big and teach us how to achieve your dream, beyond the facts that we think we understand.

Imagination to Thrive

Tuesday December 6, 2016 #850

“Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.”

~Albert Einstein

850

In these tumultuous times, it is more critical than ever that we develop our skills in creativity, imagination and learning agility.  Holding on to “certainties” in a time which challenges every assumption we’ve held, is a recipe for stagnation at the best, and getting completely left behind at the worst.  Logic is only partially the answer as we work to shift through an avalanche of information and competing “facts”.  Only by using our imagination and our curiosity can we engage our creativity and learning agility to use new and evolving ideas, people and tools to find a path for success for ourselves, our families and our organizations.  Open your mind and heart and evolve to thrive in today’s new realities.

Intention & Action

Thursday July 2, 2015 #737

Everything is energy and that’s all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.

~Darryl Anka

737

This quote, often wrongly attributed to Einstein, is nice way to think about intention and action. I do believe there is an energy and a certain frequency that seems to surround those who consistently succeed and find joy in life.  When combined with positive and consistent action, our intentions can help to attract the people and circumstances necessary for success and happiness.  Find and/or create the frequency that works for you.

Being a Person of Value

Thursday April 30, 2015 #721

“Try not to become a man of success but a man of value.”

~Albert Einstein

create value - inpiration concept - isolated words in vintage letterpress wood type

Any study of people who enjoy sustained success shows these people have a core competency in adding value to the people around them and the activities in which they engage.  Think about how or if you are adding value to the people and activities you engage in today.  How can you add more value?  Who can you help?  How can your unique talents and passions add value to the projects you are assigned to or lead?  Push yourself today to add a little more value vs. looking for how you will gain.

Unique Talents

Tuesday March 31, 2015 #712

“Everyone is a genius.  But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing it’s stupid.”

~Albert Einstein

712

Each of us has innate skills and talents, as well as activities and interests we are most passionate about.  If we are fortunate, we are able to bring those skills and talents to work and activities that bring us joy.  If not, we may find ourselves trudging through a life in which our talents are not utilized, and our passions are not realized.  Too often, we expect people to be something they aren’t.  Or others expect this of us.  It is important for you to understand your unique strengths and utilize them in a way that brings you satisfaction.  If you are in a position of leadership, it is important to recognize the talents of each of the people in your team, understand what they are passionate about, and strive to match these to tasks and roles that maximize their contributions and engagement.  Don’t stay in roles that require you to be something you are not or do not make use of your unique talents, and do not ask this of others.

Kindness, Beauty & Truth

Tuesday October 16, 2012 #463

“The ideals which have lighted my way, and time after time have given me new courage to face life cheerfully, have been kindness, beauty, and truth.”

~Albert Einstein

One of the great benefits of the internet age has been the easy distribution and consumption of positive, inspirational, and developmental writings.  JAM with Mike is designed to be one of these.  I am intensely optimistic that most people want to be inspired and that they are using blogs like this one to surround themselves with positive influences, motivating them to take positive actions.  As Einstein notes, kindness, beauty, and truth are the antidotes to negative influences.  Despite the challenges facing our planet, I am hopeful that most people are growing their capacity for goodness and that their subsequent actions will shape our future.

Applied learning – Dare to be Contagious!™

Tuesday April 24, 2012 #413

“A clever person solves a problem. A wise person avoids it”

~Albert Einstein

We celebrate those who can solve problems.  These people are clever and able to look at an obstacle and devise the means and methods to overcome it.  The truly wise however, are able to reflect on the situation, learn from it, and adjust their approach to similar situations in the future – avoiding the obstacle all together.

The point?  Be sure as you successfully work through a challenge to take the time to reflect and learn – and then apply that learning in future situations.  Most importantly, your value will be exponentially expanded if you teach others what you’ve learned.  As I often teach, “Dare to be Contagious”™, and share your knowledge freely.

Believe in possibility

Tuesday March 8, 2011 #296

“It is always better to believe than to disbelieve; in so doing you bring everything into the realm of possibility.”

~Albert Einstein

Sometimes the only way forward is to imagine the impossible as possible, the insurmountable as something within reach.  So long as you focus on what is not right, what seems futile, what is wrong with a situation or a person, you will remain stuck in the present state or even fall backward from your quest.  Throw off the shackles of doubt and decide to believe in possibility.  This life is an amazing gift.  Don’t waste it in the shadows of disbelief.

The hallmark of a great leader

Tuesday February 15, 2011 #292

“Intellectuals solve problems; geniuses prevent them.”

~Albert Einstein

Most leaders focus most of their effort, energy and intellect on being problem solvers.  While this can often be necessary and may showcase your intellect, it is not the hallmark of a great leader.  Effective leadership relies on the ability to step back and reflect with your team on why problems occur and how to prevent them in the future.  As each team member becomes more adept at observation, reflection and prevention, the team and the organization can flourish as they spend more time creating value rather than on solving problems.

People like you

Tuesday November 2, 2010 #268

“Wisdom is not a product of schooling, but the lifelong attempt to acquire it.”

~Albert Einstein

I am attracted to people who are life-long learners.  People who are curious and excited by new experiences and new knowledge.  People who are always looking for ways to improve themselves in their personal and work lives.  People who want to be better friends, partners, employees, leaders, community members.  People like you.  Thank you for sharing in my journey towards wisdom.
