Persistence

Tuesday May 23, 2017 #890

“Persistence isn’t using the same tactics over and over. That’s just annoying. Persistence is having the same goal over and over.”

~Seth Godin

890

This definition of persistence is very important. We often talk about persistence as a key factor to sustainable achievement.  However, the key is having a clear goal you are hungry for and determined to attain. This will give you the courage to keep going even when your efforts fail. Your persistence is in finding new ways to attack the challenge and eventually break through.  Don’t keep banging your head against the wall.  Rather, find new tools to bang the wall with until you knock it down!

Knowing What You Really Want

Thursday November 20, 2014 #680

“As long as we are persistent in our pursuit of our deepest destiny, we will continue to grow. We cannot choose the day or time when we will fully bloom. It happens in its own time.”

~Denis Waitley

Often the biggest challenge to achievement is knowing what you really want.  The people around you and popular culture will aggressively attempt to define this for you – how you should look, the possessions you should buy, the career you should have, and more.  Step one in the journey to becoming the best “you”, is taking the time to reflect on who and what inspires you and how best to bring your talents to the world.  Only you can make this decision.  Once you are able to determine your desired destination, persistently move toward it by taking actions daily – even small ones – that move you forward.  Whether you are 20 or 60, it is never too late to rethink your destination and get on the path that allows you to fully bloom.

Commitment to Excellence

Tuesday November 18, 2014 #679

“Desire is the key to motivation, but it’s the determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal – a commitment to excellence – that will enable you to attain the success you seek.”

~Mario Andretti

679

Success begins with the desire to achieve a worthy goal or outcome, and I don’t know of a worthy goal that lacks significant obstacles requiring determination and persistence to overcome them.  So if you find yourself languishing in mediocrity, check first if you have the desire to achieve something great in the work or the environment you are in.  Without that desire, you’ll lack the motivation necessary to push through the inevitable challenges and achieve your worthy goal.

Feeling Overwhelmed

Thursday September 25, 2014 #665

“Sometimes it can be tempting to be overwhelmed by the many things that seem to work against us. But how powerful, and how important it can be, if we don’t give in to this temptation.”

~Paula Kerger

665

We all experience a seeming lack of time, resources, support, and satisfaction.  And yet, in the same moment, the abundance of the universe surrounds us if we can only get beyond our perception of scarcity.  Those who experience their lives with the most joy are those who have the courage and persistence to push through obstacles that others shrink from, or possess the wisdom to know when to simply accept certain realities and choose a better path.  Don’t let challenges get you down.  Everyone has them.  Be one of those who choose not to be overwhelmed.

Taking the Next Step

Tuesday August 5, 2014 #650

“All great masters are chiefly distinguished by the power of adding a second, a third, and perhaps a fourth step in a continuous line. Many a man has taken the first step. With every additional step you enhance immensely the value of your first.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

650

So many times we begin our journey to achieving our goals, but stop when things get a little challenging.  Taking the first step toward your goal is fantastic.  Most never even begin. However, the only way to achieve anything worth having is to have the persistence to continue taking the next step and the next, despite challenges, lack of resources, and distractions.  Take that next step!

Making Dreams Come True

Tuesday June 3, 2014 #632

“Vision without execution is hallucination!” ~Thomas Jefferson

632

Success requires a clear and inspiring vision of what success will look and feel like when it is achieved, to both inspire us and to ensure our actions are moving us where we want to go.  Success also requires the ability to develop and execute the action plan that will move us forward, overcome obstacles, and deliver the desired results.  This takes focus, courage, and persistence.  Dream, oh yes, dream!  But be sure to then focus on execution, or your dreams will be but hallucinations.

Brilliant Ideas

Tuesday February 18, 2014 #603

“The important work of moving the world forward does not wait to be done by perfect men.”

~George Eliot

make-the-world-a-better-place

There are tens of thousands of brilliant ideas out there which, if launched, would make huge positive impact on individuals, families, organizations, and communities.  And yet only a handful of these will actually be moved forward today.  Why?  Too many believe that only ‘experts’ or those ‘in power’ have the ability to make a real difference.  Don’t believe this!

Right now, you probably have incredible value to add, whether in a small or large way.  Don’t worry that you are not an expert, or lack power or other resources.  Rely on the power you do possess – the power of your idea, and your ability to drive your idea with persistence.  The world needs your ideas.  Please help us move forward.

Luck

Tuesday February 11, 2014 #601

I believe that you tend to create your own blessings. You have to prepare yourself so that when opportunity comes, you’re ready.

~Oprah Winfrey

Make_Your_Own_Luck

“Luck” and “good fortune” are myths.  While seemingly lucky things do occur, the vast majority of fortune, success, and victories come to those who relentlessly prepare themselves mentally and physically for eventual opportunities they can then take advantage of.  Don’t leave the potential of your life to “luck”.  Create your own blessings by your own focus, effort, and persistence.

When to Let Go

Thursday December 5, 2013 #582

“Some people believe that holding on and hanging in there are signs of great strength. However, there are times when it takes much more strength to know when to let go — and then do it.”

~Ann Landers

time-to-let-go

It takes great courage and persistence to continue fighting on past obstacles to achieve worthy goals and truly make a difference for yourself and others.  However, not all goals are worth this effort.  It is important to reflect for a moment and ensure you are working toward truly worthy purposes – those that are aligned with your most deeply held beliefs and values.  As you reflect, you will likely find one or more things that you are spending time and energy on that are actually not worth fighting for.  This could be a relationship, a job, a project, etc.  It may take even more courage to decide to stop and let this one go.

Have the courage to fight on for the worthy causes, and let go of those that no longer serve you.

Your choice: progress or regress

Tuesday February 19, 2013 #499

There are no short-cuts to growth.  Embrace the unease of being inept as you take risks and conquer new ground.”

~Jenna Ryan

Every day we are faced with a choice:  Progress or regress.  Even standing still will produce regression, as the world moves on without you.  Rest is part of the progress, as you must recharge regularly to move forward – but do so intentionally and in healthy ways.

Progress requires a vision, hope, capability, competency, persistence, and always an action.  Nothing happens without action, and sometimes our unease, fears of ineptitude or failure stops us in our tracks.  Reach deep daily and remember that you have everything you need right now to push forward.  Take the step.  Act!
